Just a decade ago, few people traveled very far for cosmetic surgery. But now, many practices like mine offer full-service fly-in programs, and a virtual consultation can further help to maximize convenience by letting you take care of the initial consultation from home. Minimize your travel time and prepare to meet with your surgeon by:
- Filling out and submitting health history and intake forms online or by fax.
- Sending the practice photos of the areas you want to improve. Your surgeon may prefer for you to send them by conventional mail, by email, or by uploading them to a Web site.
- Describing the changes you’d like to see and any other background information that might be helpful to the doctor.
- Speaking with your surgeon to learn about possible treatment options.
- Arranging for financing of your procedure. Since cosmetic surgery is not covered by medical insurance, patients who travel for procedures like breast enlargement (augmentation) at my New Jersey practice have payment options like cash, money order, credit card, and healthcare financing through CareCredit.
In-person consultations are still necessary before your actual procedure, but through a virtual consult, you and your surgeon can cover a lot of the groundwork before you leave home.
