It isn’t often that a device or a machine impresses me. I try all different pieces of equipment all of the time. When I bought a hair removal laser, my thoughts were, “OK it removes hair.” When I bought a tattoo removal laser, my thoughts were, “OK it does a good job removing tattoos.” I specifically researched and found machines that I considered to be the best on the market, but at the end of they day, to me they are like using a hammer to put in a nail. When a prospective patient comes to my office to inquire about Zerona I am very honest with him or her and tell her they will see a moderate change from the machine with zero pain and little risk but they certainly will not have a surgical result. I have tried so many other products which simply do not do what they claim and I’m afraid to list those here or the various company’s lawyers will be calling….
My newest laser in my New Jersey plastic surgery practice is my Cynosure Smartskin CO2 Laser. All I can say in response to the results is wow! Sometimes technology really does make a better product. I have used many CO2 lasers. They always gave a great result but with a prolonged recovery and a significant risk of skin color changes. When Fraxel(TM) came out I was very interested but so many patients told me they see so little result. Every laser company seems to have jumped on the fractional resurfacing bandwagon with promises of a quick recovery and a dramatic result. While I haven’t trialled all of these machines since there are so many, reviews are variable. The Smartskin is incredible. I am seeing results where skin looks literally 10-15 years younger with a four or five day recovery! Patients are so pleased that it is hard to contain their enthusiasm. This is truly a great laser!
What can we do? Well, the Smartskin CO2 can resurface skin damage. I can remove brown spots. I can improve texture of pores. I can make acne scarring less prominent. I can decrease wrinkles. I can build collagen. I can even out irregularities. Lots of lasers make these claims. This one actually does it.
